Are you looking for things to do? Are you curious about planning a quick trip? This week, I’d like to share my travel plans from my weekend getaway in Rhinebeck, NY. Recently, I had the opportunity to travel for a girls’ weekend. As a bonus, these weekend getaway plans will include gluten-free restaurant options!
Coffee, Sweets & Books
It was a chilly day and our first stop was Samuel’s Sweet Shop on Market Street. This is a cute, cozy small store with a wonderful selection of treats. They carry more than just candy, there’s a coffee bar too! One of the huge draws of this candy store is the celebrity owners. This includes Hilarie Burton Morgan & her husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Paul Rudd. You can even purchase super-sized Rice Krispie treats with their faces on them! They do have a treat called power balls which are gluten-free. Just ask one of the friendly staff and they will point you in the right direction.
Now with your coffee in hand, you can take a quick walk around the corner to the independent bookstore Oblong Books. Every corner of this store has something to offer with books and gifts for book lovers. Start browsing the aisles and you will notice personal handwritten notes on a huge selection of books. These recommendations might help you make your choice. And don’t worry if you’re not local! After browsing their website, I learned that they offer many virtual events that are free to attend.
The Inn Where It Happened
After browsing a few other shops around town, you will have worked up an appetite for lunch. The Tavern at The Beekman Arms is a great choice for a cozy lunch on a cool day. It has been operating as a tavern since 1766. The website provides all of the historical information and guests that have been customers there throughout their operations. The lunch & dinner menu offers an assortment of gluten-free options. After dining here, I found out that Alexander Hamilton & Aaron Burr had their infamous disagreement that led to the tragic duel that ended Hamilton’s life. Consider arriving during a quieter time to walk around, imagine what things were like during those times. A weekend getaway with a historical background is a win!
Spirits Tasting with a ViewSpirits Tasting with a View
After the lunch break, we took a short drive to The Vale Fox Distillery. While this isn’t a necessary part of the Rhinebeck experience, it was definitely on my list due to the fact that Hilarie Burton Morgan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are involved in the operations there. You can find their brand from Mischief Farms – MF Libations there for tastings or purchases. The property is located on 120 acres with breathtaking views, a tasting room, and tours. They are still new to welcoming visitors to the property, so I recommend calling first to make sure they are open before making the drive. On the day of our visit, they were closing early for a special event but luckily they were able to squeeze us in for a tasting experience. We’ll save the tour for the next time we visit.
Dinner and maybe a show?
While you’re in town for your weekend getaway be sure to check out the schedule at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. The Center officially opened its doors in 1998. Since then they have been dedicated to providing arts & entertainment to the community for the entire family. Try to catch a show, you won’t be disappointed.
