Social Media: Staying Safe and Sane — a Talk for Clonakilty Wellness Week

Too many people are finding social media as a source of distraction, stress and even depression. This talk will show you 5 ways to stay safe and sane — AND make the world a better place! — while staying active in social media.

Clonakilty Wellness Week, taking place all this week, is organised by members of the Clonakilty Cork Mental Health Committee and Clonakilty Rainbow Group.  The aim of the week is to encourage people to take personal responsibility for their own health. Activities mainly take place in the Cumasu Bus, but there are a few other locations.

I was very pleased to be asked to do a talk on social media as this is a topic that I think about a great deal – using social media safely and sanely.  I have had experiences of bullying on social media and at times may have acted a bit like a bully myself. I also have struggled with feeling addicted to the activity and am dealing with children online — as a parent and as a CoderDojo champion.

This talk is a nice change from my usual work coaching people to use social media for business.  Come by for the talk and learn how you can change the world using social media safely and sanely.
