I recently redeveloped the website for the Irish Coastal Rowing Association. We had originally used a bespoke Content Management System that was getting difficult to upgrade and maintain and so we redeveloped the site with WordPress. John Flynn of the ICRF designed a great header using their crest and nice typeface and outstanding images he gathered from various events are used in a slideshow that really pops off the homepage at you.
As John is based in Wicklow and I am in West Cork, we did the training using online conferencing application GoToMeeting over a couple of sessions and while John didn’t think he had much computer ability, he proved to be an ACE and has done a great job adding in the archives from the old site into the new.
I also helped him switch from a Facebook Group to a Facebook Page and provided some other advice and so by the time the All-Ireland Championships came around, John, and other members, were able to post results and pictures. Now they have an even better way of promoting the organisation and its events as well as communicating with members. At the moment they have 581 likes which is really good for a new page with a very specific interest. I just need to tell him how to get a custom URL!
