Life Happens
I have found the best travel show to watch when you can’t travel. There are so many places we want to travel to. But, life happens and there are times when we can’t leave home. Nevertheless, when that happens we need something to satisfy ourselves while we wait for the next opportunity. And did you know that we can do it from the comfort of our own homes? I like to call it couch traveling!
My Favorite Travel Show
Luckily, I have found a travel show that meets all of my expectations and more! The title of the show is Somebody Feed Phil. This show is available streaming on Netflix and features host Philip Rosenthal. Some of us might recognize the name, he was the producer of the hit television show, Everyone Loves Raymond. Somebody Feed Phil premiered in 2018. When I found this show in 2020, it was the perfect time to couch travel.
Each episode heads to a different location around the world domestically or abroad. No spoilers here, I won’t tell you which places he visited. Each time I turn on the show, it’s a surprise! We can’t wait to see where we are “traveling” next.
Once Phil arrives, he begins by introducing you to his “friends” that are experts on the food/travel scene. These people will then help Phil explore the new location, eat regional foods, and learn about the local culture there. Phil’s brother, Richard, is also a producer and showrunner. This adds a fun level of sibling rivalry to the show as they joke with each other along the way. As Phil eats his way through the show, he makes new friends by learning about his hosts, chatting with strangers, and sometimes even sharing his food with them! At the end of each episode, Phil will usually bring all of the featured guests together as they share a final meal. Some episodes will include his wife Monica Horan and always features his lovely parents Helen and Max Rosenthal as he tells them about his adventures.
Best Travel Show for the Entire Family
This family-friendly travel show has continued for 6 seasons and has not disappointed me yet. I learn something new every time and get to “travel” to a place that I might never get to see in person. I’ve recommended it to many friends who need ideas for group tv watching. Phil has inspired me to continue traveling as much as possible and to never be scared to try new things.
Travel Inspirations
“The world’s pretty big. I have to travel to see everything, do everything, and eat everything. You’ll never be as young as you are right now, so while your legs still work, while you still have the breath in your lungs, go. At the end of our lives, we only regret the things we didn’t do.”– Phil Rosenthal
Phil Rosenthal has recently released a book of the same name. It is listed as “the ultimate collection of must-have recipes, stories, and behind-the-scenes photos from the beloved Travel Netflix show Somebody Feed Phil.” https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Somebody-Feed-Phil-the-Book/Phil-Rosenthal/9781982170998
Phil is Going on Tour!
I recently discovered that Phil Rosenthal would be going on tour to promote his new book. It was so exciting to get tickets to his Boston show in December. I plan on staying in the area and maybe I’ll even spot Phil eating somewhere around the city. I’ll keep you posted!
